            Are you In-Body?

            In order to generate the best results for our patients, we are implementing a high-tech body composition scale that will be used to measure a patient’s muscle, fat, and water composition. Below is a great description by Dr. Dane Donohue, of the In-Body and the types of tests that are done in order to generate a patient’s wellness score. The In-Body is becoming more and more popular within the healthcare industry and it is allowing patients to understand not only their bodies more, but their overall health as well. There are three main facts you should know about the In-Body and they include what the In-Body measures, where it measures, and the health of the cells within our bodies. Like mentioned above, the In-Body measures an individuals muscle, fat, and water content. One the measurement is complete; it will print out the patient’s current information and what should be done in order to be considered at optimal health. This means it will state how much muscle and weight a patient should gain/lose. Some results that will be listed on the sheet will be your weight, skeletal muscle mass, body fat mass, body fat percentage, segmental lean analysis, ECW/TBW, and visceral fat. Under all these marks it gives a range of what is considered below where one should be up to above where one should be. Every time patient’s re-do their In-Body it will track their progress for their weight, skeletal muscle mass, body fat percentage, and ECW/TBW. Skeletal muscle mass is the measurement of the amount of muscle an individual has on their body and body fat mass is the measurement of how much fat an individual has on their body. These two things are important to know because in order to be considered “healthy” men should have a ratio of 3:1 for muscle to fat and woman should have 2:1. Meaning men should have 3x more muscle than fat and woman should have 2x more muscle than fat. When the In-Body scans a patient, it focuses on the right arm, left arm, trunk, right leg, and left leg. Each of these sections are scored separately based on their lean muscle and fat analysis. Meaning, it will show if one arm has more lean muscle or fat than the other, and same goes for the legs. Lastly, it measures ECW/TBW, which stands for extracellular water compared to total body water. For this statistic, an individual wants a level between 0.360 and 0.390. If an individual has a statistic that is lower than that, it simply means there is more water outside of the cells than in the cells, which could cause bloating and swelling. Taking all the information from one’s In-Body results, plus some other tests focusing on function, blood work, and stability, this is how we create a patient’s wellness score. Once the wellness score is created the patients can start the 8 Weeks to Wellness program, which will help increase LEAN muscle mass, and decrease stubborn fat, to help create a better quality of life. Focusing on problem areas based off the wellness score will help patients reach their individualized goals. Are you ready to get started and change your life?!
